This last Sunday was Jake's Priesthood Preview at church - an introduction to what his responsibilities will be when he turns 12 later this year and is ordained a deacon. During the meeting , the Bishop called all the boys up front and asked their Primary teacher to join them. Jake's teacher is Ned, the husband of my good friend Lori and I have been so happy he is Jake's teacher. I love that this is what she calls memories, and it reminded me that I have been so neglectful in updating this online journal of their childhood.
So here goes...
Austin's birthday, we decided to head to the beach, since Brian was there for work. We've got a ton of hallway walls upstairs, and very little hanging on them. Today we decided to do a Pinterest hack, and make some of our own art. This was a super simple, super fun activity.
Canvases from Hobby Lobby, blue painters tape and regular craft paint. The kids loved it and are excited to hang their own masterpieces on the walls.

For several years now Brian and I have been looking for a good place to go to the river. No one with any concern for their own health actually swims in the Willamette, so we were on the search for a good clean river with easy access for the kids and a nice park to spend the day in.
Thanks to an Albany community page on Facebook, we found just the place - Waterloo County Park, Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16011285587337908526noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2961681404012897961.post-76940090789929408572014-07-25T16:37:00.003-07:002014-07-25T16:37:52.216-07:00Beach Day
To finish up our Independence Day weekend, we headed for the coast. We don't get there nearly as often as we want. After having a super yummy lunch at a new-to-us restaurant in Newport, we spent the afternoon at Agate Beach. Once again we lucked out with amazing weather and warm water. The kids were in it all day!

This spring I got the chance to go on several of Austin's field trips, first up to a Knights baseball game on the OSU campus. Luckily there were also several activity booths outside the stadium, because this kid and his homey lasted about 15 minutes watching the game.

This kid started playing flag football this spring and is fully enjoying himself. I think he looks pretty cool in his gear. He may not be RG3, but he is working hard and experiencing teamwork and the ups and downs of athletics.

The warm weather this spring has brought out my kids inner Picasso's. Any day without rain I find new artwork adorning our driveway. This one was my favorite.
Also any day without rain brings with it a whole lot of biking. Now that Leah's a seasoned biker, she rides the neighborhood with the rest of the crew, which is my kids plus 2-6 other kids, depending on the day. One of the things I love about Albany is the number of parks it offers. For a relatively small city (population 50,000, about 1/3 the size of Salem) it seems to have as many parks as Starbucks. Many of them sit right on the river and make for gorgeous walks amid beautiful scenery. Our first stop was Simpson Park.

This precious little bundle spends 3 days a week with us, and as Jacob says nearly every day, "It's nice to have a baby in the house again!" I think he may be a little biased, since this handsome guy was named after him. I have to agree with him, although my baby skills are a little rusty. My baby will be 5 in less than two weeks!!

The look on her face pretty much sums it up... this girl is a bike rider and couldn't be happier about it.
She went from a trike to her big girl bike, no training wheel sin between. Like her brothers, it was pretty much one day she decided she wanted to be able to ride, so she did.

Our annual summer visit to Grandma and Grandpa's fortunately coincided again with The Children's Festival. The kids went for the first time last year and loved it. Luckily for us, this year it was about 15 degrees cooler than it was last year. Also, thanks to Grandma's new robo-knees, she was able to attend with us, and scaled the hill like a boss.
